This
beautiful wildflower can be found at the edges of
ponds, creeks and swamps, and are found in the wild
from South America to the United States. Flowers
are a delightful 1 inch (10-20 mm.) sunflower yellow.
These plants are easy to grow, just put them into
a pond. Do not expect a large bush, Water Primrose
is a very vigorous growing plant that
carpets the edges of ponds with creeping or floating,
branching stems, which grow up to a foot high, covered
with glossy, oval leaves, which grow up to an inch
in length. The leaves are light green on top and
creamy green beneath. The foliage that grows above
the water may be darker green tinted with red. It
produces cup-shaped, yellow flowers that
persist all summer long .
They begin blooming in June
and finish up in September, making it a very long
bloomer. and
can be quite aggressive in some areas.
This
plant is extremely invasive and
is best suited for larger ponds unless one has the
time to keep it trimmed back. It has a tendency
to take over the pond as the stems creep into the
water.
General
Culture: Grow these plants in 1- to 5-gallon containers,
depending on their eventual height, filled with
rich loam or clay-based soil. Primrose Creepers
need shallow water, they tolerate full sun and no
drainage.
Propagation:
These plants may be divided or rooted stem cuttings
may be planted.
